Supervisors to Tighten Zoning for Commercial Cannabis Farms?
The Board of Supervisors will likely consider revisions to its Cannabis Ordinance on April 10. Many rural residents are discovering that commercial cannabis farms are proposed in their communities and want the county to tighten the zoning requirements. In February Supervisor David Rabbitt, Tennis Wick (Permit Sonoma), and Mark Essick (Sheriff’s Office) discussed the cannabis program and responded to questions in the “No Pot on Purvine” meeting in West Petaluma. About 300 people attended to express their concerns—often passionately—about commercial cannabis farms near them.

After the Fires
For those of us who lost our homes in the October fires, we are at different places on our recovery journeys; lots may still need to be cleared for some, while others have contracted with builders and are already in the process of getting plans approved. Most are trying to decide whether to rebuild and whether they can afford to rebuild. Wherever you are in this process, you are not alone—your community, your government, and your County Supervisor are working through this with you and want to make sure you have access to up-to-date information. So far in Sonoma Valley, Permit Sonoma has issued permits for three homes and one bridge. This is a great start, but we have a long way to go.

Community Workshop with the Bennett Valley Fire District
The Bennett Valley Fire District (BVFD) community workshop was held on February 10. About 25 Bennett Valley residents attended the 2.5-hour meeting. Around a dozen fire representatives attended including BVFD Board members, Cal Fire, and BVFD fire officials. Bennett Valley Fire Chief Dan George stated the purpose of the meeting was to address the December letter from Bennett Ridge Community Association and to identify issues that should be included on future BVFD Board meeting agendas for research and resolution.
