Living With Mountain Lions -- Part 2
Wednesday, April 19th, 7:00 PM @ The Bennett Valley Guild
4145 Grange Rd, Santa Rosa, CA
We are delighted that Dr. Quinton Martins, a wildlife ecologist with Audubon Canyon Ranch (ACR), will return to update our community on the research results of ACR’s Mountain Lion Project. His talk will be held on Wednesday, April 19, at 7 PM at our Guild Hall. Parking will be a challenge so please carpool.
Dr. Martins is leading the project and has already collared four mountain lions. Their movements are now being tracked by satellite every two hours. The talk will focus on what Dr. Martins has learned so far, including home ranges of two lions that extend from Trione-Annadel State Park to Oakmont and Bennett Valley, south almost to Boyes Hot Springs. You might learn that lions are visiting your own property without your knowledge.
The study has also investigated 26 potential feeding sites. Of the kills located, many have been black-tailed deer of varying age. New information will be shared on the lions’ hunting behavior.
The results of this work have already increased our knowledge of mountain lions in ways that support conservation across all species, educated the public about the role and importance of these top predators, and worked with landowners towards coexistence for the benefit of both our natural and human communities.
