County Will Repair Both Sonoma Mountain Road and Bennett Valley Road in 2014

by Craig Harrison

As indicated in the letter that the Bennett Valley Community Association send to Supervisor Gorin and Department of Transportation and Public Works Director Klassen (posted on the BennettValley.org web site), we will have major sections of two roads in our area improved in 2014:
  1. The 2.54 mile stretch of Bennett Valley Road between Old Bennett Ridge Road and Warm Springs Road is scheduled to receive a bonding wearing course treatment. This is a new technique that utilizes a polymer modified asphalt emulsion.
  2. 2.19 miles of the worst sections of Sonoma Mountain Road are targeted for base repairs and chip seal. This work is being funded via the County Corrective Maintenance Fund which has unspent money because of the light rainfall this storm season.
The Bennett Valley Road work was anticipated because in 2011 it was designated to be part of the county’s 200-mile primary road system.

Credit for improving Sonoma Mountain Road goes to the 550+ residents and users who signed a petition last summer asking to improve this road, as well as those who have called and sent emails to Supervisor Gorin. This is a case of public officials listening to the community that they represent, and the Bennett Valley Community Association has thanked them on your behalf.
