Bha Membership List & Upcoming Board Elections

• This special edition of the VOICE is being sent out to notify BHA members that the names and addresses of BVHA members have been released, as of 10/18/00, to a BHA member for a very specific purpose related to the BVHA elections for the Board of Directors. Members can be reassured that the BVHA membership list will not be released in any situation, except one such as this which is required by law.

• BHA received a written request for the BHA membership list, dated 10/11/00, trom a BHA member, Heather LaRiviere, for the purpose of "allowing me and other BHA members to communicate privately with some or all of the other members regarding the upcoming election of BHA directors, and to share with certain members some of my views about the BHA generally and a few specific recent events in particular." • The California Corporation Code, Section 6330. (a) states that a member of a corporation, including nonprofit corporations, may obtain from the secretary of the corporation, upon written demand, a list of names and addresses of those members entitled to vote for the election of directors. The demand shall state the purpose for which the list is requested and the list shall be made available on or before 10 business days after the demand is received. If the corporation reasonably believes the information will be used for another purpose, it may deny the member access to the list. There is no reason to believe that the BVHA membership list will be used for any purpose other than the one stated, so the BHA membership list has now been released to this particular member.

• In past years, it has been difficult to find people interested in running for the BHA Board of Directors. This year some people have objected to some of the actions and/or attitudes of the BHA Board of Directors, so presently there are at least six candidates who have expressed an interest in running for the three available positions on the Board. Up until 11/1/00, any additional interested candidates may also choose to run for the Board. If you have any questions regarding this election or becoming a candidate, you may call Phil Temko, Chair of the BVHA Nominating Committee, at 544-0234.

• This process represents "democracy in action." When you don't like the way someone is representing you, you then try to find someone else who will do a better job of representing your views. For this to be effective, it is very important that BHA members study the information which is received about each of the candidates and vote for the three candidates who will best reflect their interests. You can expect to receive all of the candidates' brief biographies and statements in the next VOICE, along with the ballot, by November 13th.
